Key Largo | Tavernier | Islamorada
November is a particularly beautiful time to experience the Upper Florida Keys. The summer heat begins to soften, evenings become more comfortable, and the islands gradually welcome the return of our winter season.
For those of us who call the Keys home, November is a month to appreciate the quieter moments before the holidays are in full swing. It's an opportunity to spend a little more time outdoors, enjoy dinner on the water, browse our local boutiques and reconnect with the community.
Whether you're visiting for Thanksgiving, spending the season at your second home or enjoying everyday life in paradise, there's plenty to discover between Key Largo and Islamorada.
Here's your guide to November in the Upper Florida Keys, with a few local favorites along the way.
Islamorada will host a special America 250 celebration at Founders Park, featuring the Tunnel to Towers traveling 9/11 memorial exhibit, a U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute demonstration and an evening drone show.
It's an opportunity for the community to come together for a meaningful national commemoration in one of Islamorada's most recognizable gathering places.
Location: Founders Park, Islamorada
One of my favorite ways to spend an evening in Islamorada is wandering through the Morada Way Arts & Cultural District.
Held on the third Thursday of the month, the Art Walk brings together local artists, galleries, small businesses and visitors for an evening centered around creativity and community.
Expect original artwork, live entertainment, open galleries and a relaxed atmosphere that feels distinctly Islamorada.
Local tip: Make dinner reservations nearby and enjoy the Art Walk before or after your meal.
Tour de Keys is a charitable cycling event that takes participants along the Overseas Highway, beginning in Key Largo and continuing toward Key West.
The event benefits MARC House, an organization serving adults with developmental disabilities throughout Monroe County.
It's a wonderful example of the community spirit that connects the islands.
Thanksgiving in the Keys has its own charm.
Instead of traditional fall weather, our celebrations often involve waterfront dining, boat rides, outdoor gatherings and sunset views.
Many local restaurants and resorts offer special holiday menus, while others prefer to celebrate at home with fresh local seafood alongside their Thanksgiving favorites.
If you're planning to dine out, make reservations well in advance and confirm each restaurant's holiday offerings.
The Upper Keys have an exceptional collection of waterfront restaurants, neighborhood favorites and locally owned establishments.
While there are plenty of places to grab a casual bite, these are a few worth building an afternoon or evening around.
For an iconic Florida Keys sunset, Snook's Bayside is difficult to beat.
Overlooking Florida Bay, the restaurant offers waterfront dining, tropical cocktails and a relaxed setting that captures the feeling of an evening in the Keys.
It's particularly beautiful around sunset, when the sky begins changing colors over the water.
Best for: Sunset cocktails, waterfront dinners and entertaining visiting friends.
If you're looking for fresh seafood and a more authentic working-waterfront experience, Key Largo Fisheries is a local staple.
Part seafood market and part casual restaurant, it's a wonderful place to enjoy fresh fish or pick up seafood to prepare at home.
November also falls within Florida's stone crab season, making it a great time to look for fresh claws when available.
Best for: Fresh seafood, casual lunches and stone crab season.
Tucked away at Garden Cove Marina, The Buzzard's Roost is one of those places that feels removed from the busier Overseas Highway.
Its waterfront setting and laid-back atmosphere make it a lovely option for lunch after a morning on the water.
Best for: A quieter waterfront lunch and classic Keys atmosphere.
For a slightly more refined dining experience, Square Grouper offers contemporary coastal cuisine in a polished but comfortable setting.
Located at the marina, it's a favorite for seafood, creative dishes and an evening that feels a little more elevated without becoming formal.
Best for: Date nights, dinners with friends and special occasions.
Few dining experiences feel more like the Florida Keys than enjoying a meal overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
Lazy Days has long been known for its oceanfront setting, generous seafood selections and relaxed island atmosphere.
Best for: Oceanfront lunches, visiting family and leisurely afternoons.
One of the pleasures of shopping in the Keys is discovering independent boutiques, local artwork and coastal pieces you won't necessarily find elsewhere.
Rather than spending the day in a traditional shopping center, I recommend exploring a few different areas.
Morada Way is one of the most interesting places to discover local art and creativity.
The district is home to galleries and artist spaces, making it a wonderful stop for original artwork and pieces inspired by the islands.
If you're furnishing a Keys home or looking for a meaningful gift, this is a great place to start.
For timeless coastal style, Southern Tide offers a beautiful collection of classic American sportswear and resort-ready essentials.
Known for its polished yet relaxed aesthetic, the boutique carries clothing and accessories for men, women and children. Think tailored polos, lightweight fabrics, casual dresses and versatile pieces that transition effortlessly from an afternoon on the water to dinner out.
For anyone who appreciates coastal interiors, Ocean Gardens is a must-visit.
Part boutique and part maritime gallery, this Islamorada destination is filled with nautical antiques, distinctive shells, one-of-a-kind jewelry, artwork and coastal home accessories.
Tucked into the beautiful Pines & Palms Resort property, Sea La Vie Beach Boutique offers a thoughtfully selected collection of island-inspired clothing, accessories and gifts.
The boutique carries resort wear for women, men and children, along with jewelry, beach essentials and charming coastal finds.
Islamorada Mercantile combines classic island style with an eclectic selection of clothing, accessories, home goods and gifts.
The boutique offers a mix of relaxed resort wear, jewelry, travel accessories and thoughtful finds for the home. You'll also discover gifts for children, personalized items and distinctive decorative pieces.
Known for its iconic giant lobster, Rain Barrel Village is a collection of artisan shops, galleries and local vendors.
You'll find artwork, handmade gifts, jewelry and coastal-inspired pieces in a tropical setting.
It's also a fun place to bring visitors who want something beyond the typical souvenir shop.
For boutique shopping in Key Largo, Shell world has it all from gifts, home decor, jewelry, kids items and more! A unique curated selection and large selection.
As November progresses, keep an eye out for local markets and seasonal shopping events.
These are often some of the best opportunities to discover handmade jewelry, artwork, home accessories and gifts from Florida Keys makers.
Supporting locally owned businesses is one of the easiest ways to keep the character of our island communities alive.
One of Key Largo's best-known natural attractions, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park offers snorkeling, diving, kayaking and glass-bottom boat excursions.
November can bring beautiful days on the water, although wind and sea conditions should always guide your plans.
With multiple locations in Key Largo, swim with the dolphins or experience other encounters or viewings. This is fun for all ages and really allows you to get up close and personal with some of the Florida keys sweetest animals.
Enjoy lunch, shopping and feeding the tarpon at Robbie's Marina in Islamorada. With the Ocean breeze, art activities, frozen drinks and people watching, this is one of the best way to experience the Florida Keys.
Whether it's fishing, snorkeling, cruising through the backcountry or simply enjoying a sunset boat ride, November is a wonderful time to appreciate the lifestyle that makes the Keys so special.
For visiting friends and family, I often recommend planning at least one experience that gets everyone out on the water.
Some of the most memorable evenings in the Upper Keys require very little planning.
Find a bayside restaurant, order something you enjoy and watch the sun disappear over Florida Bay.
It's a simple tradition, but one that never gets old.
When people tell you the Florida Keys is a slower way of living, this is what they mean. Wind down and slip out of the sun for a relaxing massage or facial. Enjoy the pool or suana after along with champagne and a view.
November is a reminder that the best parts of living in the Florida Keys aren't always the biggest events or most elaborate experiences.
Sometimes it's a familiar restaurant, an evening art walk, an afternoon on the boat or discovering a small local business you've never visited before.
As a fourth-generation Florida Keys local, I love sharing the places and traditions that make these islands feel like home.
Whether you're here for a weekend or considering making the Upper Keys part of your everyday life, I hope this guide helps you experience a little more of what makes our community special.
